What does the name ‘Sativus’ mean?

Sativus is a derivative of the name for saffron in Latin: "Crocus Sativus". Taken from journeys to the Near East, it found a way to Europe. Nowadays, saffron is considered the most valuable among spices. Only small amounts are sufficient to give dishes a special taste; the spice was also often used for medicinal applications and perfumes. Sativus is also a term used in botanics to describe sowing, planting and growing. For us it’s a symbol of the impact one can have and of the sustainable growth we are looking for with our partners. And beside all this, we just really like tasty food

When Bernd Damme is enthusiastic about something – and that happens quite a lot - he gives it his all. At a very young age, the driven entrepreneur and marketing specialist already ran Eyewear.nl, a startup that grew into an international eyewear powerhouse which he sold in ‘13. After this adventure, the history and art enthusiast co-founded menswear brand Pelliano and was the proud founder of House of Eléonore. This jewellery start-up, launched in 2015 as a joint venture in collaboration with legendary family business Royal Asscher, was fully devoted to sustainable and transparent luxury. Since Bernd truly enjoys travelling, food, nature he is also aware of the responsibility we carry for our planet.

Building brands and implementing strategies are Bernd’s greatest strengths. He truly enjoys helping other organisations and businesses than his own, by sharing knowledge he retrieved from both his successes and failures. After all, you learn the most from the mistakes you make. When it comes to consultancy, Bernd has a long and varied track record. He served as a strategic consultant at Zoom.Industries and was involved at Essenza Home as head of E-commerce and Omni-channel (ad interim) after participating in its advisory board. In the past, he was the vice-chairman of the Sagamores Foundation and advisor to the Ministry of Economic Affairs, Agriculture and Innovation. Being a music lover, Bernd is also a passionate member of the board of Wonderfeel, a festival for classical music near Amsterdam, and a advisor and seed investor in several startups such as Flex-Appeal (HRM / SaaS), Woov (festival industry) and ZYNC (e-mobility).

Besides doing business, Bernd studied International Business Administration at the Erasmus University Rotterdam. He has been nominated for several awards, such as the 'Loey Awards', the Sprout 'Challenger 50', Retail Rookie of The Year 2015 and Elsevier’s 50 Talents of the Future'. In 2012, Bernd was named 'Best Young Entrepreneur of the Netherlands’.
