Diamonds, jewellery & return of the maker movement
The world of diamonds and jewellery captures the imagination of many. From the famous Koh-i-Noor diamond to the crown jewels, from the search for the perfect engagement ring to the mines of South Africa. During this keynote, Bernd takes you on a journey through time and cultures and reveals the mysteries of the diamond industry.
With House of Eléonore, he committed himself to making luxury more sustainable, personalised and bringing the craft back to The Netherlands. Royal Asscher, a 162-year-old family business, supported him in this mission. Royal Asscher is mostly known for polishing the biggest diamond in the world, the Cullinan, now part of the scepter and crown of Queen Elizabeth.
all this glitters is not gold
Centuries of exploitation have done no good to the environment and well-being of the miners. Many will remember the movie 'Blood Diamond' with Leonardo DiCaprio. Although much has changed in the meantime, partly due to the introduction of the Kimberley process, many things still have to be altered. Bernd gives you a 'behind the scenes’-experience and shares his vision on the future. By sharing first-hand insights about the disruption laboratory-created diamonds are causing or the impact of gold mining on the environment, he wants to urge for a more sustainable approach.
In an interactive manner, providing striking examples, Bernd challenges your guests to look at the future in a new way: full of opportunities, where dreams can be transformed into reality by working together.
“60,000 kilograms of rock is mined to source a 1 carat rough diamond. This is the equivalent to the weight of 465,000 iPhones. For a diamond smaller than eye of the camera on your iPhone”
